Zoo braces up to ward off bird flu

Hyderabad: The outbreak of ‘H5N1’ bird flu virus in the city seems to have triggered panic among the Nehru Zoological Park authorities, who have taken up several preventive measures. The officials are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the virus, which has spread in some Ranga Reddy villages resulting in culling of over 2 lakh birds, does not affect birds in various enclosures of the zoo. The zoo authorities have issued guidelines against getting close to the avian enclosures and have barred unauthorized persons from feeding the birds.
